Can Kiwi be grown in Baalbeck? The picture to the left shows me enjoying the suiting shade of a
kiwi tree at my farm in Baalbeck. When I embarked on this project, many of my friends
advised me to refrain, forecasting that kiwi was still new in Lebanon, and that it would
be hard to grow, and harder to sell.
Determined and armed with ample research and data on this product, these words failed to
discourage me.
The project was not really a promenade, as I had to work very hard and do a lot of
travelling to make it happen. And now, after six years of consistent efforts, I feel I
have succeeded in initiating a project that can be adopted in many parts of Lebanon, and
particularly in the Baalbeck-Hermel region where the need for such an alternative
plantation is great.
Kiwi is a relatively convenient to grow, its plants can be propagated by seeds or
cuttings. Today, more and more seed catalogs and nurseries are promoting kiwi as a
"new exotic fruit that has 20 times more vitamin C than citrus fruit, and is fairly
easy to market at a high profit margin.
Those who wish to learn more about this product or visit my kiwi farm, please contact me
and I will be more than happy to extend a helping hand.
